By John P Tatison

Photos embody memories, and this is why photos are considered to be one of the household treasures. Preserving memories nowadays is simple due to canvas printing. There are many benefits of canvas printing that are discussed in here.

Canvas printing actually enables anyone to print their favourite photos in larger formats. Regardless of the size of the image that you want though, canvas printing yields consistent lifelike finish every time you print. When resizing photos, they tend to pixelized, affecting both clarity and detail. Enlarging a photo and having it printed on a canvas is a solution to this since this is one of the major advantages of canvas printing that no matter how much resizing you do, you will consistently get realistic prints.

When you print your photos on regular photo papers, you cannot necessarily expect these photos to last no matter how much you protect them. These photos tend to fade unlike when you resort to canvas printing. Canvas, which is an extremely durable material, absorbs the ink. Canvas printing companies also use a special ink that resists fading. Definitely, you will get to appreciate the photo like it was always the first day that you have seen it.

Moreover, canvas printing is a sure-fire way of adding character to your bland walls. Canvas printing can instantly change the faade of your walls from boring to tasteful, adding character to every room and corner. For a more defined personality, place canvas-printed photos in large formats.

You can also choose the finish that you want for your photo to match your decorations. Canvas printing companies offer choices like coloured, black and white and sepia among others. You will get to preview the photo before the company will print it. In this way, your specifications will be met since the photos can be modified until you are satisfied with them.

Canvas printing companies can also offer collage canvas printing if you cannot decide which photo should be printed. This would be great if you have favourite photos that you want to see in a single, large photo.

You may always get your canvas-printed photos treated as well. While canvas is naturally durable, you have to exert measures in further protecting your photos. You can still make the photos water- and UV ray-resistant. Through referring to any canvas printing company, you may further extend the life of your photos.

By Petra Berg

The reason that a piece is selected can differ, some people like to be reminded of places that they have visited, but some just enjoy see the stunning creations of natural landscapes.

What the art lover must realize, the painting is just a construct of the artists perception. They do not sit on a hillside, faithfully replicating what they see. It is more normal practice to sketch a scene, and return to their studio to paint. If they feel that a ramshackle building, or livestock, would add to the artwork, they are added. Even hilltops have been known to appear, or disappear, due to the artists perception.

It is difficult not to find a reason to buy a beautiful painting of a landscape. This is especially so if you are a lover of art, and of the countryside. This form of artwork is suitable to be placed in almost any room. Just by looking at it you could be temporarily whisked away to a place of peace and tranquillity.

Whether the scene in the painting is a place you are familiar with or not, it would be difficult not to appreciate it. Artists can be inspired by the beautiful scenes of the country, and can express their feelings whilst portraying reality. It would be difficult not to admire the skills required to recreate this kind of scene.

The artwork you choose must be something you can look at daily, and still find something new to appreciate. You should never be tired of the painting. It should be something to share with others, to talk about, to explain how you feel, and what you see that others may not see.

Landscape paintings allow you to bring the outdoors inside. They are of scenes that very few people have the privilege of seeing in reality. What you see in a specific painting is not necessarily what others see, maybe not even what the artists saw.

Digital Photography Basics - Understanding The Camera Lens Hood

- - Sanny Tendilla

By Dan Fieldman

Basics Of Photography - Free Digital Photography Book

A camera lens hood is a cylindrical piece of plastic, rubber, or metal which fixs over your lens to prevent light from shining straight into it. The hood may screw into the front of the lens or some hoods are attached to the lens and can slide out like a sleeve.

Initially when I first got my DSLR camera I had no idea what a lens hood was. I purchased my camera used from a friend. It had 2 lenses. One of the lenses had a hood. I do not ever used the lens hood at first. Yes, I had a film SLR camera when I was younger and I should have known what a camera lens hood was, but I don't ever used one hood then either. One day I decided to use the hood to see if it made a variation and it did. Now I use my camera lens hood regularly.

Hoods can come in a variety of shapes and lengths. They are normally cylindrical, but they may also be square. The edge of the hood could be straight or flowered. Flowering of the edge should aid prevent vignetting when the hood is on properly. Hoods are made for each kind of lens. Make sure you use the hood that was made to be used with your lens. If you use a different hood you might get difficulties, like vignetting.

Digital Photography Principles - Improve Your Photographs

Lens hoods help reduce the shapes and streaks of color that bright light might cause in your picture called lens flare. But that's not the only thing a hood can do.

Using a lens may also help make the colors in your photos look richer. It helps prevent you from getting blown-out pictures.

If you wish to use flare as a creative effect in your picture you won't use a hood, certainly.

Digital Photography Basics - Protect Your Lens

As the hood stands apart from the front of the lens the way it does it may aid protect your lens from damage. That isn't the objective of a hood, but it can work as additional protection to prevent things in contact with the glass at the front of the lens.

It can also protect your lens from getting dust or water on the front element.

Digital Photography Principles - Potential Problems with Lens Hoods

Often hoods can cause problems with your pictures. If your hood is too large it may block your camera's built-in flash. If that's happening you'll notice that your photo is darker at the bottom.

Often you might notice vignetting when you use a particular lens hood. This all depends upon the lens your using and the size of hood. Lenses with a wider field of view can't use longer hoods. If you use a hood made for the particular lens your using, you wouldn't have this issue.

5 Face Sketching Guidelines

- - Sanny Tendilla

By Mason M. Connely

Finding out how to sketch faces isn't easy. Therefore keeping in mind where I began, I come up with 5 tips to aid others that are in the beginning stages on their learning to draw experience

So just why is learning how to draw realistic people so tough for the bulk of us? Although we can clearly picture the face in our mind, or get it as a picture directly in front of us. As for sketching it on paper, it simply will not manage to end up right.

You may have had this experience? You begin sketching somebody's face to find that when you are finished it seems not much like the real face.

The trouble comes down to the fact that every face is a mix of several facial elements; eyes, ears, nose, mouth and so on. Every one of these characteristics may then be broken down into their specific aspects and if even a single aspect isn't really right then the face as a whole will not look right.Knowing that, here are Five tips which aided me with learning how to draw faces.

Give attention to Every Facial Attribute Individually

What lots of people try to do, when learning sketching, and what I tried to do, is attempt to be able to draw the face as a whole, while this process may well appeal to some, I found it more effective to target learning to draw every individual facial part. Upon having perfected that then drawing the face all together is easier.

Learn How To Sketch Using Photos

Yet another valuable learning to sketch point I learned the difficult way; is that it is far easier to learn to sketch using a photograph, especially when it's black and white. Not only are the lines far more distinct, but obviously the photograph isn't going to move around, that will make sketching simpler

Plan The Position, Outline And Proportions Of The Characteristics

There is no benefit in sketching eyes or ears perfectly, if they're out of proportion with the remainder of the portrait. So it will be essential to ensure you correctly evaluate and pre-plan the whole portrait before beginning drawing .

Learn To Really Understand The Individual Attributes Of Each And Every Face

Sketching grown ups is significantly different from sketching kids, once we grow up our features get more defined, and regrettably we tend to have extra wrinkles on our faces. Additionally drawing a female's face is different from drawing a male's, their lips are generally fuller, noses smaller, eyebrows thinner and so on. In my experience, when you are aware of the individual elements of each face before starting sketching, the portrait overall should come out much better.

Learn How To Sketch In Your Individual Style

When studying to draw it is rather beneficial to follow a drawings step by step course, even so don't attempt to have your drawings look just like somebody else's. Drawing is all about passion, flare and individuality, by trying to become too mechanical about it, you then take all of the pleasure out of it. Therefore a bit of the artist should be shown in each face which they sketch to bring a legitimate special quality to their work.

Right here you will find some very nice tips about portrait sketching, I've found if folks genuinely make a note of all these steps it increases the all round quality of their sketches. These are for newbies rather than seasoned artists

The Many Facets of Ceramic

- - Sanny Tendilla

By Matt Osborne

A ceramic is an inorganic solid prepared by the act of heat and subsequent cooling. In other words, ceramic is a material utilized to create things. It is a really extensive word that covers any kind of material composed of inorganic crystalline components. Ceramic is a flexible substance that's as old as civilization itself, but still has several sensible applications nowadays.

The art of ceramics has been in existence for thousands of years. The word ceramic derives from the Greek term keramikos, meaning "of pottery". The earliest ceramic objects are dated from 27 thousand years back. These figures were manufactured from a fire-hardened clay material. Later on, ceramics had been glazed to create a sleek surface which was usually shaded for decorative functions.

Ceramic has changed from simple grey clay pottery to glazed as well as polished materials in many designs and colours. Today ceramic items can be bought in everything from construction components to art objects. During the 20th century, new ceramic materials had been developed to be used in sophisticated ceramic design like in semiconductors.

Ceramic items are normally divided into four categories: technical, structural, refractories, and whitewares. Structural ceramics include things like tiles for floors and roofs, bricks and pipes. They are often designed to be solid and structurally sound. Refractories have to withstand tremendous heat and are utilized in gas fire radiants, kiln lining, and glass making crucibles. Whitewares incorporate white ceramic objects in the home just like tableware, cookware, pottery products, and appliances such as sinks and toilets. These types of items are manufactured from material such as porcelain, earthenware, stoneware, as well as bone china. Finally, technical ceramic is employed in uses from the space shuttle program to biomedical implants.

Ceramics are used almost everywhere and can be found in the most strange places. For example, ceramics are being used in dental implants as these components merge easily to bone as well as other tissues within the body without rejection. Watchmakers are now making high-tech white ceramic watches due to the material's light weight, resistance to scratches, as well as durability. Because of their light, still sturdy structure, ceramics are likewise usually used in bullet-proof vests as an approach to repel big caliber rifle fire. Even some knife blades utilize ceramic components to ensure the blade stays sharper longer compared to conventional steel.

From its humble origins as a material to make clay pots, to the advanced scientific uses of today, ceramic made a great progress. You might be amazed how many ceramic things you find while looking around your house, from the white ceramic vase in the corner to the tiles which line your kitchen floor. Ceramic is everywhere and will continue to play an important part in our modern lives.

Pin Up Art in the Past and Present

- - Sanny Tendilla

By Sarah Covington

Since the creation of pin up art over a century ago, it has gradually grown from an avant-garde and disregarded art form to a important symbol of classic American pop-culture. Pin up art originated from the social paradigm shift from conservative to more liberal social values resulting from the sexual revolution of the early 20th century. While the precursor to pin up illustrations began to appear in magazines as early as the 1890s, it was the flapper community of the 1920s that truly gave rise to the movement.

The advance of printing technology produced a tremendous audience for this media as well as a dependence on experienced artists who could quickly create graphics with mass appeal. Pin up pictures obtained progressively more mainstream presence with the publication of Esquire magazine during the early 1930s. A pin up model is commonly regarded as a young woman whose appearance would motivate a person to "pin up" her image on the wall. The widespread publication of Esquire, which would usually contain images and artwork of the sex symbols of that time period, allowed individuals to display these images. This growing appeal and general acknowledgement of this artwork was a symbol of the national paradigm shift taking place.

By the outset of The Second World War, pin up art was truly an American trend. Movie star illustrations were common in soldiers' barracks, on fighter aircrafts, and in numerous publications in the United States. Pin up eventually found approval as a form of artwork as the drawings grew to be progressively more sought after.

In the 1950's and 1960's, pin up transitioned into photography and started to be far more blatantly sexual. This newer pin up imagery gradually diverged away from artwork and the playful innocence created in the authentic creations. Consequently, the development of genuine pin up illustrations basically ceased until the advent of the online world, which restored fascination with the style. It concurrently provided a channel to present the classic graphics created during the prime of pin up, while enabling modern artists to produce innovative illustrations with a retro charm.

Pin up has regained the attention of today's art world and it is thought of as a legitimately American art form. Though lots of contemporary pin up artists strive for a more photo-realistic or airbrushed style that is sometimes seen as contrary to iconic pin up art, there are several that aim to recapture the innocence and creativity of the vintage style. Regardless, pin up will permanently be considered a symbol of Americana as it has once again renewed advancement in the art field.

Fashion Artwork

- - Sanny Tendilla

By Sarah Covington

A fashion illustration showing a design's coloring, texture, and appearance on a model is critical for the designer to express the idea to the seamstress. These drawings have been employed worldwide for hundreds of years. Once clothing production became a necessity in developing countries, so did fashion illustration. Although fashion photography is becoming more widespread in the modern world, all designers still have to draw their concepts before they are made.

All artists have distinctive fashion illustrations as with any type of artwork. Fashion artists present their model and apparel with a range of methods and different styles. The sketches make a point of emphasizing the clothes and often don't incorporate the model's facial features or other extraneous details. While some artists do a really basic sketch of the clothes to get a concept of overall shape, others are much more detail oriented. Commonly, fashion illustrators use extremely slim and elongated figures to capture the shape of the garments. Fashion illustrators do this in order to capture the intended form of the clothing on the fashion show and magazine models with a similar look.

Despite the fact that the majority of fashion illustrations start with paper and pencil, modern technology has allowed these graphics to be shown digitally. Now, using the internet, designers have the capability to send their images around the globe and display them for the public. A number of designers even use their artistic expertise along with technology through the use of tablet computers, that allow them to sketch directly on the computer. Even so, for many detail-oriented designers, these methods do not supply adequate control and they still want to draw by hand and scan their illustrations afterward. Often, designers utilize these pictures to develop online design portfolios of their work.

Many years of training and plenty of persistence are needed to be able to draw the human body and garments in great detail. Students within the fashion discipline are usually recommended to take numerous classes which help them learn the necessary abilities for their industry. If this sounds like an art form you wish to learn, classes are available at educational institutions, art societies, or sometimes even museums. Furthermore, there are various books and web-based lessons that will help you master the subtleties of drawing figures and apparel.

Fashion illustration is merely an additional kind of artwork, and designers frequently sell their designs. With the creation of the internet, this kind of art is becoming increasingly popular to hang in the home or office or to give as a gift. Wedding fashion illustration is extremely common for a present for a bride or their family member. Some designers even do customized drawings of the new bride in her wedding gown to be used as a keepsake of the wedding day. Since the wedding industry is one of the biggest niches of fashion nowadays, these specialized dress designers must consistently create brand new designs in order to stay competitive.

Mastering Human Proportion

- - Sanny Tendilla

By Manci Zeelgal

For most artists, their dream is to take an image from their mind and put it on paper. (To learn more about portrait drawing, check out this article on eye drawings)

Well, in order to do that, we must first know the basic structure of the human body like the back of our hands.

Understanding the anatomy and proportion of the human body is key to figure drawing.

In this article, I will try to teach you how to embed the human figure and its proportion into you mind. Once you master this skill you'll be able to easily and effortlessly drawing the human form from you mind.

The secret weapon that we are going to use to accomplish this goal is an idea called, "Mastery Through Invention."

The basic concept of "Mastery Through Invention" is this: When you INVENT something from scratch using your own imagination, you instantly comes its MASTER and that invention will be permanently embed into your brain. And you'll never forget or have any problem recreating it.

Let me show you how this works.

Take out a piece of paper and draw any shape you'd like.

Alrite, now crumble that paper up and throw it away. Make sure you can't see what you just drew. Good. Now take out a blank piece of paper and draw that EXACT same shape again. I'll wait.

All done? Were you blown away by your newly discovered photographic memory? Cool, huh?

You just experienced the effect of this concept first hand.

"That's great. But what does this have to do with figure drawing and how to draw people step by step?"

Great question! See, the reason so many artists struggle with remembering what the human body is suppose to look like is because they perceive that knowledge to be OUTSIDE of themselves. They were never the CREATOR of the human form, and so they never truly UNDERSTAND that knowledge.

Just pretend that there is no such thing as the human body and that you are going to create it from scratch. Then re-build the human body using the rules of proportion that you know about.

And by doing so, we will own that knowledge forever!

The Basics Of Making Quilts

- - Sanny Tendilla

By Owen Jones

If you have never done any quilting before, you may be forgiven for thinking that it looks fairly simple. The fact is that it necessitates a lot of patience, skill and diligence to create a quilt. It really is not as simple as it looks. It takes practice and attention to detail. Given that, you must use good quality textiles if you are considering manufacturing a quilt.

Cotton is all right for the task, but it ought to be the lowest you will go. No polyester or other man-made textiles. If you do use these cheap textiles and spend weeks making your first quilt, you will simply regret it. If you make mistakes, but the fabric is decent at least there will be that one saving grace.

Once you have selected your cloth, you can select the style or pattern that you want. This might seem backwards, and that is OK. If you want, you can choose the style first and then a fabric to match, but I would recommend that you just stick with cotton for your first quilt.

Next, you have to get hold of a pattern. This is very straightforward. You can either become a member of a local quilting group, where people will give you conventional patterns or sell you modern ones; or you can go on line and look on Google or Yahoo for 'free quilt patterns' or you can go to your neighbourhood craft shop and buy one that suits your requirements.

You will also need a good set of tools to make your quilt. It is a good idea not to scrimp on these tools as they are not expensive; will make your task a lot easier and will last a very long time. You will need at least one rotary cutter. 'At least one' because the wide blade cutters are good for straight cuts whereas a small blade cutter is better for corners or shapes. By the way, these rotary cutters look like pizza cutters.

Because these cutters are sharp, you will also require a cutting board. This can be as simple as a sheet of plywood, trimmed to suit your table top or you can simply lay it on the floor. Without a board, you will damage your table or carpet. You will also need dress-maker's scissors and large shears. Further requirements are pins, needles, cotton, straight edges and markers.

Your pattern will explain about batting and a back fabric and you must pay a great deal of attention to the recommendations in your pattern.

This article cannot be a 'teach yourself quilting' manual, but I hope that it has shown you that you do not need a great amount of apparatus to make very passable bedding quilts. However, with only a little adaptation of the pattern, you could make some beautiful duvet covers. Not many people make duvet covers, so you could either make them exclusively for yourself or sell them.

How Gesture Drawing Can Make You More Creative

- - Sanny Tendilla

By Manci Zeelgal

Gesture drawing could be a very helpful thing for a lot of artists. A frequent problem that we artists have is over thinking a sketch. I'm sure you've had the experience before. (source:howtodrawpeoplefaces.org/how-to-draw-a-realistic-face-step-by-step/ & visit this website)

You simply get frozen before the empty canvas or paper and do not know how to begin. You agonize over every stroke and the whole process very frustrating instead of fun.

This is the artistic writer's block and the reason you (and so many other artists) suffer from it is simple: you're attempting to draw AND edit yourself simultaneously.

By attempting to critic yourself as you draw, you are actually trying to use two opposite areas of the brain.

It is the you trying to walk backward and forward ; the result is paralysis and you find yourself going no where.

Just how can you solve this frustrating problem? One efficient way is by using an exercise that I called, "The Sixty Second Sketch." The way it work is you pick out a photo of a figure which you want to draw and after that draw it in 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, you HAVE to stop.

, you're not going to be able to do a very complete drawing in that short of a time, but that's the whole idea. This exercise let go of any self-editing tendency and permit your creativity and energy to flow through.

, you start to see the picture as a whole and stop worrying about the little details. This, by the way, is the key to adding life and emotion to your drawings.

Here are a few tips to pay attention to when doing this exercise:

-At all times keep your hands moving. Slowing down only give you time to second guess yourself. (I like to act like I just drank a gallon of Red Bull and that my hand is possessed by some artistic demon)

-Make long broad strokes. This means you gesture drawing not with just your wrist, but also your arm. It could help to use a larger sheet of paper.

-Warm up by doodling or drawing long vertical and horizontal lines across a sheet of scratch paper. Just the act of drawing will get make this exercise a lot easier.

Just practice this exercise at least one time and you will see good results. (For more information on how to draw an eye in pencil.) By following theses tips, you'll help improve your drawing portraits skills.

What To Consider When Choosing An Artist For Classical Portrait Painting

- - Sanny Tendilla

By Chloe Gib

Buying a portrait is not something people do very often in their lives. Sometimes these paintings are bought to be passed on to coming generations so it's crucial to choose a brilliant artist to complete the work. There are so many who state they are up for the task of classical portrait painting but so few who are classically trained and capable of performing to high standards.

The abundant technique used today is photorealism. This is different from realism in that photorealism is generally achieved through the mapping out and virtual tracing of a photograph. Realism draws and paints from life.

They don't copy but rather create by carefully choosing the elements that need to be featured which will establish a complete likeness as well as a stunning painting. The two styles are enormously different and the latter can be identified through the high standard of the final image. Those using realism are able to capture an unidentifiable quality in a person which makes them who they are.

Armed with that information, the first question to ask of an artist is whether he works from a photograph or life. There's nothing wrong with requesting samples from his portfolio but it's important to seek images apt for the image one is wanting. In other words, if ones young daughter is the desired subject, one should request examples of portrait paintings of children. It would be simpler to begin the search for artists in ones area and there are likely to be many. A search engine, for example, turned up 2 million results for Texas artists.

It's acceptable to ask for a quick half hour sketch of the subject to assess style and talent. One who can yield a brilliant graphite image will yield a brilliant painting. This is because grey scale sketching is far more challenging than the use of color. Black and white sketches reveal every flaw.

The human form is the hardest thing for an artist to master. Those who've been classically trained will have learned to command it through working with live models. This is a rare gift, as most universities no longer offer the opportunity for this study. It's important to ask for the academic qualification of the artist to assess whether this classical training has been received.

It's not necessary to have an education in art to judge the standards of an artist. People are able to recognize good work whether they think they can or not. Everyone has an intuition they should trust when assessing the quality of classical portrait painting.
