Do It Yourself House Painting Tasks

- - Sanny Tendilla

By Eleonor Rodriguez

While it does take some hard work, painting your house is something most people can do. Determined by how much time you have lived in your house, and how long it has been since it was painted, you'll know how difficult the job will be. If you complete appropriate prep work and you make the time, you will be able to save some money doing it yourself. You'll want to employ someone to do the job for you, if you need to take off from your job to do it.

After years, the paint on your wall will either start to fade or peel. At this point almost all you are able to do is to get a paint scraper and scrape as much of the paint off as you can. If your home might be very old, it is conceivable that you may have several coats of paint underneath. It is usually even more challenging if the layer of paint below was oil-based. After you're done scraping the paint from the walls, you'll either need to putty holes in the wall if it's wood or spackle if it is drywall then sand it down. When you are done, now remove the dust and give it an opportunity to completely dry. Chances are you'll want to let it settle for 24 hours before you start painting.

Older dwellings may have problems with moisture build-up. Paint will quickly crack when you have condensation or leaks. This happens frequently in a bathroom, and in most cases, you will find mold or mildew at the same time. While typical in bathrooms, this issue can also occur in other parts of the home. Should you have a leak or bushes that are too close to your house, you will have paint cracks. In the event your paint might be cracking because of moisture build-up, you will need a different solution. If the paint cracking is actually inside, you will want to make a solution of one part bleach and three parts water to stop the mildew buildup. If it is on the exterior of the house, you just wash it with a pressure washer and the solution that comes with it.

If the paint on your home is starting to lose color, that is also a good time to repaint. Such a thing happens most often outside the home where there is direct sunlight nearly for the whole day. To prevent this problem, avoid bright colors, or bold ones, similar to red. If you want some kind of declaration color, check out golden or ruddy tone.

You shouldn't ever let your home get into bad shape. You need to take the time to repaint every few years and fix any leaks once they happen.

A Brief History Of Art Prints

- - Sanny Tendilla

By Jeremy Winters

The creative muse inspired the very first cave man or woman to express their soul onto bare rock walls. They created art, something no other creature on earth can do. Not only was it an expression of their souls but it might possibly have been a documenting of an event so that other individuals might understand and enjoy.

This was far back in the dim past, yet the urge to create and to voice our inner soul stayed with humans. However, art could only be created in a very restricted way until finally art prints entered the picture. This caused art to take a far more pronounced place in the life of modern man.

Art was at one time very rare and only one of a kind and was found in the castles of kings or cathedrals. The masses of people could not afford such objects inside their modest houses. It wasn't until the advent of the printing press that thousands of art prints were able to be printed from the original work. Now artists obtained a lot more freedom to examine their own inner souls and their world.

With the printing press, art prints could finally be printed, providing art work and the written word to the public. Then they were able to see what was happening out in the world with no need of relying on somebody else telling them. With this improvement in technology, not only was information dispersed to the far corners of the world, but so was art.

Paper was first a high priced luxury that only the very wealthiest could afford. Nevertheless, once the Gutenberg printing press was designed, paper was made more inexpensive. Now art work expanded in leaps and bounds and has changed throughout the course of history.

These prints grew into just about all areas of human advancement. Prints of holy pictures, science, landscapes, prints of witches and daily living started to be available. Maps could be made by the thousands, giving an advantage to sea exploration. Together with the availability of pictures individuals could find out what was happening in the printed book.

The prints were black and white and print makers attempted to add grey within the pictures. This process, called Mezzotint, was invented in the 17th century. With this particular method, prints were able to have depth and were much more realistic when compared with black and white prints.

New methods were introduced in the 18th century which broadened the art world. One of those was the Aquatint method, which was able to nearly reproduce the appearance of wash paintings, which were really popular at that time. Experimenting was key to new ideas that developed art.

Artists can now count on color copying as a result of the advent of the lithograph. Art has progressed by leaps and bounds, providing individuals with opportunities to create their passion.
